Team Spotlight: Tien

Staff Attorney, Housing

Meet Tien! She’s our newest staff attorney focused on unlawful detainer cases on the Housing team. Before joining APILO in August, she worked as a staff attorney at Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at Chinese Newcomer Service Center in San Francisco, where she represented low-income clients in correspondence with the IRS on tax issues.

Tien Tien’s roots trace back to Taiwan, where she was both born and raised, embracing her identity as an Asian Pacific Islander. Her deep connection to this vibrant heritage has fueled her desire to become an integral part of APILO. Tien worked as an Associate Attorney at Integration Law Office for around 6 years, where she focused on civil litigation and real estate transactions.

Tien’s thirst for adventure inspired her to study abroad. In 2022, Tien earned her LL.M. from the New York University with a concentration in Corporation Law. While in law school, she worked at her university’s pro-bono project on AI law, conducting research on privacy regulations on machine learning. She also earned the CIPP/US certificate at International Association of Privacy Professionals. After her time in law school, Tien completed a judicial internship at New York State Supreme Court.

Tien is a member of the New York State bar. She is fluent in Mandarin and English.

What excites you about working with APILO?
What excites me about working with APILO and the communities we serve is the opportunity to provide crucial legal services to individuals facing housing issues. I see the chance to address a pressing need within the community. Being able to use my legal expertise to help individuals navigate and overcome housing challenges is not only professionally fulfilling but also personally rewarding.

What expertise do you bring to APILO?
I believe my previous litigation experience in Taiwan, my legal training in law school, and my experience working with low-income clients in the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic can bring substantial value to APILO.

What do you enjoy doing in your personal time?
Beyond work, I have a deep passion for traveling. Exploring new cultures, cuisines, and landscapes allows me to broaden my horizons, gain a deeper understanding of the world, and create lasting memories. I also like photography and creating traveling videos on YouTube.

Thank you Tien and welcome to the APILO team!
