Team Spotlight: Isabel

Administrative Assistant

Meet API Legal Outreach’s new administrative assistant Isabel! A recent UC Davis grad in Political Science planning on going to law school, East Bay native Isabel loves giving back to the community, including supporting Grace’s Garden, a sustainable community Garden that provides fresh produce to the community and fundraising for NAMI National Alliance for Mental Illness. We took a few minutes with Isabel to understand what makes her tick.

API Legal Outreach team member IsabelWhat excites you about working with APILO and the communities we serve?

As a Bay Area native, I know the history, and understand that all we have gained as a community was through the community itself, through organization and mobilization of individuals and leaders within our community. So to be a part of APILO, an organization that not only was historically a part of this movement, but still continues today providing direct services to the community with a staff that celebrates diversity is really exciting to me.

What expertise and interests do you bring to the organization?

I grew up as a first-generation Mexican-American with LGBGTQ+ parents. This gives me a really unique perspective and appreciation for these communities and the struggles that impact them as well as other minority communities. Growing up with a parent who was a union steward, I also am passionate about labor rights and preserving the dignity of all humans, something we are inherently entitled to.

What are your passions beyond work?

Outside of work I enjoy reading and going to the public library, volunteering at the local animal shelter, and spending time with my friends and family.

Welcome to API Legal Outreach, Isabel!
